Mythical experimental group Musica Elettronica Vivas was formed in Rome in 1966 by pianist Frederic Rzewski, sound improviser Alvin Curran and the improvisatory keyboardist Richard Teitelbaum. Taking cues from John Cage and David Tudor, MEV employed open, limitless structures using found instruments toys, a homemade synthesizer and Moog to to liberate listeners from bourgeois conformity. This ultra-rare double album, recorded in 1977 for Horo Records, captures MEV in all their discordant, improvisatory glory, with Steve Lacy on soprano sax, Garrett List on trombone and Karl Berger on piano and vibraphones.
