Volker Kriegel (1943 - 2003) is one of the best and most important German jazz guitarists of the post-war period, internationally highly recognized, he drove the innovations of jazz rock with his very own signature. With the development and digitization of Kriegel's own tape archive, selected treasures from his various creative phases will be made audible again in first-class remastering. These audiophile gems form the "Volker Kriegel Archive", which is now being released on Moosicus.
"Mild Maniac" was released in 1974 as the only album by the top-class jazz rock band Spectrum: in addition to Volker Kriegel on guitar, the band features Eberhard Weber on bass, Rainer Brüninghaus on keys and Joe Nay on drums. Peter Giger contributed first-class percussion as a guest in the studio.
The bonus tracks are live recordings from the "Idsteiner Schlosskonzerte 1977", which were previously only available on a rare LP and have now been remastered from the original tapes, as well as a solo recording Volker Kriegel made during a TV special.
