Eric Dolphy’s complete original album "Out There" (New Jazz NJLP8252), his second LP as a leader after "Outward Bound". The instrumentation featured here is unusual, with Dolphy playing in a quartet format with Ron Carter on cello, George Duvivier on bass, and Roy Haynes on drums. As a bonus, alto saxophonist and flutist Ken McIntyre’s complete LP "Looking Ahead" (New Jazz NJLP8247), which was recorded in a quintet format less than two months before "Out There" (Dolphy is the only other horn player featured on the date).
