Bird's Eye is the new album by Miami-born saxist-composer David Leon. It represents the fruits of his studying with percussionist Manley “Piri” Lopez, who helped Lopez get in touch with his Cuban roots. Yet, oddly, this new trio includes an Asian gayagum player, and percussionist Lesley Mok includes a glockenspiel in these recordings! Thus Bird’s Eye is what you might call a cultural olio rather than a homogenous Latin album.
