NEW ARRIVAL !
A nice slice of work from the great Curtis Fuller – a set recorded in New Orleans at a time when the trombonist was experiencing a bit of a rebirth – and one that also has him working with a great array of younger players too! The set's got an easygoing sort of vibe – the mode usually put forth by the Progressive label – but there's a sharpness to the solos, thanks not just to the always-great sound we love from Fuller's trombone – but also to work from Javon Jackson on tenor, Maurice Brown on trumpet, Peter Martin on piano, Bill Huntington on bass, and Jason Marsalis on drums. The presence of Jackson is especially nice – and titles include Fuller's classic "Arabia" and his tune "The Court" – plus "Good Bait", "Caravan", "Up Jumped Spring", "Old Folks", and "Star Eyes". CD features a bonus alternate take of "Caravan". © 1996-2018, Dusty Groove, Inc.
