Sonny Fortune

The Sonny Fortune of the mid-eighties is nicely encapsulated in this presentation 'Invitation  recorded in 1984 by Masahiko Yuh in New York City. Sonny is backed here on this quartet outing by an emerging Rene Rosnes on piano, bassist Kenny Davis and Ronnie Burrage on drums. Aside from 'Invitation,' Bronislaw Kaper's classic jazz vehicle and the Coltrane standard 'Mr P.C.' there are five originals here by the leader. The music here is archetypal Fortune with the spirit of Bird and Trane omnipresent and the quartet formula giving plenty of room for the other high quality participants to freely express themselves.
