1979’s ‘Kemo-Sabe’ is the sole album from the Masao Nakajima Quartet, which was fronted by the brilliant Japanese jazz pianist and included bassist Osamu Kawakami, saxophonist Toshiyuki Honda and American drummer Donald Bailey. Firmly acoustic and kind of old-fashioned in the context of the boom in electrified fusion at the end of the Seventies, it was overlooked at the time but has been critically re-evaluated in the subsequent decades.
