In 1958, vibraphonist Cal Tjader and tenor saxophonist Stan Getz joined Vince Guaraldi, Eddie Duran, Scott La Faro and Billy Higgins, to record a selection of fine jazz standards and Tjader compositions.
Getz shared with Tjader an enthusiasm for Latin and Afro-Cuban sounds that can also be heard on Sextet. In the early '60s, the saxophonist expanded this passion together with Charlie Byrd. At the end of the 50s, however, he was interested above all in making a recording with a vibraphonist with a vibraphonist.
Getz and Tjader had known each other for a number of years, but due to differing schedules and tour commitments, they did not manage to enter the studio together until February 1958. Together with the extremely talented fellow musicians they had chosen, they produced an excellent album in just three hours.
This release from First Impression Music contains Ultra High Definition 32-Bit Mastering & UHD 32-Bit PureFlection Manufacturing Process.
