Motohiko Hamase

Very poetic sounds from bassist Motohiko Hamase -- a contemporary recording, but one that almost takes us back to that late 70s/early 80s moment on the Japanese scene, when musicians were combining electric and organic elements -- but in ways that had a surprising mix of modes!

Hamase plays a six stringed electric bass, but also adds in piano, light percussion, and other sounds -- mostly from keyboards, we're guessing -- but sometimes with acoustic source elements, which gives the keys almost a painterly approach in sound! The tunes aren't entirely jazz, but they're all instrumental, and way more tuneful than any sort of soundscape mode -- with titles that include "Childhood", "Intermezzo", "Tree", "Water Meadow", "Doll", "Na Mo Che", and "Reminiscence"
