Although he was a ubiquitous session player, the brilliant trombonist Jimmy Cleveland only recorded four albums under his own name, all of which are included on this set in their entirety. The albums are Introducing "Jimmy Cleveland" (EmArcy MG36066), "Cleveland Style" (EmArcy MG36126), "A Map of Jimmy Cleveland" (Mercury MG20442), and "Rhythm Crazy" (Mercury MG20450/ EmArcy MGE26003). They were all recorded in a septet/octet format and feature a myriad of jazz stars, such as Art Farmer, Ernie Royal, Jerome Richardson, Lucky Thompson, Benny Golson, Cecil Payne, Don Butterfield, Hank Jones, Wynton Kelly, Junior Mance, Barry Galbraith, Paul Chambers, Oscar Pettiford, Max Roach and Art Taylor, among others.
