A legendary French filmmaker, actor, and screenwriter, Jacques Tati (1907-1982) was voted the 46th greatest of all time in a poll conducted by Entertainment Weekly of the Greatest Movie Directors, despite having only six feature-length films to his credit as a director. His comic universe, which rested mostly in pantomime, won Tati universal renown as a successor to the art of the great silent film comedians. Taking that into consideration, the music on the soundtracks of his films was highly important.
This release compiles all of the music from Tati’s three earliest feature films: "Jour de Fête" (1949), with music by Jean Yatove; "Les Vacances de Monsieur Hulot" (1953), with music by Alain Romans; and "Mon Oncle" (1958), with music by Franck Barcellini and Alain Romans. The theme songs from two of Tati’s short films, as well as eight tracks showcasing the small group of film composer and pianist Alain Romans, have been added as a bonus.
