One of the greatest singing brother duos of all time, The Everly Brothers’ close harmonies became one of the most identifiable sounds of the late 1950s and early 1960s. They set unmatched standards for close harmony, and infused rock & roll with some of the best elements of country. Don Everly (born February 1, 1937) and Phil Everly (born January 19, 1939) sang of young love with a heart-rending yearning and compelling melodies. The harmonies owed audible debts to the Appalachian tradition, but were imbued with a keen modern pop sensibility that made them more accessible without sacrificing any power or beauty. They were not as raw as the wild rockabilly men from Sun Records, but despite their polished look they could rock hard when they wanted. Even their mid-tempo numbers and ballads were executed with a force missing from the straight country and pop tunes of the era.

Long unavailable on vinyl, this quintessential collector’s edition includes The Everly Brothers’ fifth LP, A Date with The Everly Brothers, originally released by Warner Brothers in 1960. In addition, also contains 4 bonus tracks from the same period.

These splendid recordings were produced by Archie Bleyer and feature a virtual who's who of fabulous musicians from the Nashville scene, including legendary guitarists Chet Atkins and Hank Garland, plus James Clayton (steel guitar), “Lightnin’” Chance (bass), Floyd Cramer (piano), and Buddy Harman (drums), among others. “Between Hank and Chet, I mean there wasn’t any better. It didn’t exist”, Phil Everly once recalled.
