One of the most celebrated Sinatra albums of all times, both Nelson Riddle (The album's conductor and arranger) and Frank himself agreed that only the "Only the Lonely" was Sinatra's finest album ever. It was made at a time of great tragedy for Riddle, who has just lost both his mother and his 6-month old daughter. The melancholy mood can be felt throughout - both in Nelson's exquisite arrangements and Sinatra's incomparable skill at handling a ballad. In addition, this release includes seven bonus tracks arranged and conducted by either Riddle or Gordon Jenkins that perfectly fit within the album's maudlin mood.
