This release celebrates the history of the Pan Afrikan Peoples Arkestra (PAPA), founded by the pianist, composer, and community activist Horace Tapscott in South Central Los Angeles in 1961, and directed by him until he passed in 1999. There are six tracks, all of them previously unreleased, recorded between 1961 and 2019, one from each of the six decades (and counting) of the band's existence.

Born on August 25, 1933, in New Jersey, Wayne Shorter is an acclaimed and celebrated composer, saxophonist, and bandleader whose illustrious career spanned over several decades. In the 1950s, the musician gained recognition for his work as a member of Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, while the 1960s was the most momentous decade when he joined Mile’s Davis Quintet.
