This release contains two extremely rare Bill Evans recordings as a sideman, both of which appear here on CD for the first time ever. The Mello Sound of Don Elliott (Decca DC9208) was recorded in February of 1958, shortly before Evans joined the Miles Davis Sextet. Featured with the leader and the pianist are reedman Hal McKusick and the future drummer of the Bill Evans Trio, Paul Motian. Listen to the Music of Jerry Wald (Kapp KL1043) was recorded in 1955 and features Wald on clarinet along with Evans, Eddie Costa, and Paul Motian again, in his first collaboration ever with the pianist.
