This remastered CD edition presents Otis Blackwell’s most essential and enduring works from his career, including a variety of the timeless songs he composed (or co-wrote) in the Fifties and early Sixties for different artists and labels. Most listeners will have more than a passing familiarity with Elvis Presley’s version of “All Shook Up,” so in order to be less predictable, we have decided on an alternative reading of this celebrated composition. The 1957 rendition featured here was cut just a few weeks before Elvis’ famous version, by the underrated singer and actor David Hess (using the stage name David Hill). In much the same manner, rather than use Elvis’ iconic reading of “Don’t Be Cruel”, this edition includes a version by Connie Francis.

This collector’s release also contains a selection of lesser-heard tracks which are just as enjoyable as the hits. It represents a formidable slice of popular culture with some of the fi nest gems of the original rock & roll era.
