Originally released all the way back in 1958, Leroy Vinnegar and his sextet made a quietly impactful statement with Leroy Walks! Enlisting the help of Victor Feldman, Gerald Wilson, Teddy Edwards, Carl Perkins and Tony Bazley, this swing/jazz opus hears the double bassist embark on a quest on foot, with each of its seven bluesy numbers hearing Vinnegar walk away, take a walk, walk the line, walk a mile in our shoes - you get the picture. Thanks to this reissue, we once more get to hear the Indianapolis native cover all his favourite 'pedestrian' standards, backed by many-a-xylophone and tight rythmatics. Riveting enough, this one'll satisfy only the headsiest of jazz heads, but we're sure that won't stop you indulging this LP-form masterclass in the walking bass.
