This release presents, for the first time ever on a single release, the complete sessions that produced the legendary Shirley Bassey LP Let’s Face the Music (Columbia SCX 3454), on which she was backed by the Nelson Riddle orchestra. To the twelve tracks of the original UK LP, we have added an extra tune and three alternate takes that complete the sessions.
This material had only previously appeared on the American version of the LP (shown below). Dame Shirley Veronica Bassey, was born in Tiger Bay, Cardiff, Wales, on January 8, 1937 (she is 76 at this writing). She found fame in the mid-1950s and has been called “one of the most popular female vocalists in Britain during the last half of the 20th century”. In the US, in particular, she is best known for recording the theme songs to the James Bond films Goldfinger (1964), Diamonds Are Forever (1971), and Moonraker (1979).
