Live at the Apollo is famed as the best concert recording of Brown's raw showmanship (even as the hottest live soul performance ever released for many sources). Taped in the fall of 1962 at the venerable, and even legendary showcase for black artists, the Apollo Theater of Harlem, New York, the recording captured James Brown & The Famous Flames when they were still something of an underground phenomenon. With a series of smashes on the R&B charts to his credit, Brown was poised to move in on the pop charts. The numbers contained on this classic album mark the best introduction into Brown's mastery and legendary career. In addition to the original LP, this remastered collector's CD contains 12 bonus tracks — including live recordings and hard-to-find studio sides from the same period.
