This edition presents two amazing quartet albums featuring multi-reedman Roland Kirk and pianist Horace Parlan: Gifts and Messages and I Talk with the Spirits. Those records constitute the two musicians’ only collaborative studio quartet albums ever. The second LP includes one of Kirk’s most iconic numbers: “Serenade to a Cuckoo”, a favorite of Ian Anderson (Jethro Tull), who even recorded a version of it.
