This new 4-CD BOX SET on the Enja label presents 4 separate concerts recorded from 1968 to 1978, three of them at the Domicile Club in Munich, Germany, and the last one at Luitpold halle in Rosenheim. The artists on the box's cover, however, do not play together. The 1968 Domicile concert on CD1 presents a quintet fronted by Pony Poindexter on alto sax, Benny Bailey on trumpet (this is their only known recording together!), and a local rhythm section including bassist George Mraz; CD2 consists of a 1975 Domicile set by a quintet fronted by Frank Rosolino on trombone and Conte Candoli on trumpet plus again a local rhythm section; CD3 contains a 1972 Domicile set by a quartet lead by pianist Fritz Pauer, with Erich Bachtraegl on drums, and American friends Jimmy Woode on bass, and Joe Harris on drums; finally, CD4 has probably the jewel of the set, a quartet set with Art farmer as the only horn, backed by Gerd Francesconi on piano, Günter Lenz on bass, and Billie Brooks on drums. Farmer's set is the one taped at Luitpold Halle in 1978 and has the trumpeter performing a series of wonderful standards, with Duke Jordan's "My Heart Skips a Beat" and Leonard Bernstein's "Some Other Time" as the highlights.
All four concerts are previously unissued and are presented in excellent sound quality remastered from the original tapes.
