3 COMPLETE LPS ON 2-CD SET!

INCLUDES 8 BONUS TRACKS

1 SONG APPEARING FOR THE FIRST TIME ON CD!

Best known for his long stints as a member of the Count Basie Orchestra, trumpeter Joe Newman recorded several wonderful albums under his own name. This set presents all of the sessions he recorded as a leader featuring pianist Johnny Acea. An interesting performer, Acea died in 1963 at the age of 45. Included here are the complete albums "Joe Newman and His Band" (Vanguard 10” SRV8007), "The Happy Cats" (Coral CRL 57121), and "Locking Horns" (Rama RLP1003/ Roulette RS-52009) – the latter LP also features Zoot Sims and Oscar Pettiford. This set also contains “Joe’s Blues”, a song which completes the Happy Cats sessions and appears here on CD for the first time ever. It was originally issued on the compilation LP Jazz Cornucopia (Coral CRL-57149).

As a bonus, a splendid session featuring Newman in the company of Count Basie himself, which was originally issued on the 10” LP Joe Newman and the Boys in the Band (Storyville STLP-318).
