In February 1981, one of Brazil's most cosmic-minded jazz and jazz-funk musicians, flautist Hermeto Pascoal, gathered a group of leading Brazilian players to perform a concert at the Planetario de Gavea in Rio de Janeiro. That concert has become part of Brazilian jazz folklore, with those present citing it as one of Pascoal's most sublime performances.

This album from Far Out Recordings presents the highlights of that set in freshly remastered form. What stands out is not only the freewheeling nature of the music and its' undeniably spiritual and cosmic feel, but also the near impossible-to-pigeonhole nature of Pascoal's compositions, which sit somewhere between space jazz, jazz-funk, free-jazz and heady tropical jazz fusion. In a word: brilliant.
