This quintessential CD includes two of Snooks’ finest studio albums: his masterpiece New Orleans Street Singer (released on Folkways in 1959), plus the long unavailable That’s All Right (Prestige/Bluesville 1961). Chosen by MOJO magazine in 2003 as one of the Top 10 Greatest Guitar Albums of all time, Eaglin’s debut long play, New Orleans Street Singer, was a revelation when it was originally released by Folkways Records in 1959. It presented to the world a gifted guitar player and a naturally soulful singer who brought a kind of jazzy New Orleans feel and groove to the folk-blues standards he was covering. The 16 solo performances contained on this LP have weathered the test of time, as they still sound exciting and vital today. The material consisted of a combination of blues standards, rolling Caribbean rhythms and fi ery, Latin-fl avored runs.
